North Carolina secured it's first ranked win in three seasons with a walk-off three-run home run over No. 20 Virginia on Saturday, March 7.
🐎 DARK HORSE HEELS: Favorites and dark horses heading into conference play
The Heels faced a 9-8 deficit in the bottom of the seventh in game two of the series in Chapel Hill. That is, until junior Emily LeGette stepped up to the plate.
With two batters on, a 3-2 count and no outs, this situation was all too familiar for LeGette.
The Virginia Tech transfer had earned the Tar Heels two other walk-off wins this season against App State and Boston College. Meanwhile, UNC secured its third of the year when Shelby Barbee forced a fielder's choice error in the 5-4 defeat of Boston College just one week prior.
But it was LeGette who played hero once again today. She had already knocked two home runs in the game when she settled into the box and sent the no-doubter to center.
Not only did she secure her third walk-off win of the season, but she also became the third Heel in program history to tally a three-home run day.
LeGette's 14th blast of the year clinched the 11-9 win over the Hoos, sending Williams Field into a frenzy.
THE THIRD THREE HOME RUN GAME IN PROGRAM HISTORY GIVES US OUR FIRST RANKED WIN SINCE 2023!!!!!!!!!!!!
